Tips for Beautiful and Low Maintenance Flower Boxes
I love the look of flower boxes on windows and porches, but I don’t have time to take care of them daily. Anyone else?!
Today I’m sharing my tips and suggestions for beautiful and low maintenance flower boxes. (Note: I’m not a plant expert; I’m just sharing what I’ve learned the past few years!) :)
Tips for mixing plants in your containers:
-Pay attention to how much light the area receives! Use plants that have similar light requirements.
-Mix shades of greens!
-High contrast looks great in flower boxes!
-Mix plant heights and add a plant that will cascade down the sides.
My Formula =
Cascading Plant + Colorful Flowering Plant + Contrasting Center Plant
Please note: This is just my tried-and-true formula. There are tons of examples of beautiful flower containers that don’t follow this example, but this has been a no fail method fo rme! haha!
Low Maintenance Plant Recommendations:
Favorite Cascading Plant = Creeping Jenny
Favorite Cascading Plant Option 2 = Potato Vine
Favorite Pop of Color in the Summer = Impatiens
Favorite Pop of Color in the Spring and Fall = Snap Dragons
Favorite Pop of Color in the Winter = Pansies
Favorite Contrasting Centerpiece = Coral Bells (comes in a variety of shades, but I like the purple)
Favorite Contrasting Centerpiece Option 2 = Coleus
I hope these tips and recommendations help out as you create your own flower containers! Also, we live in South Carolina along the coast. So make sure these plant recommendations work well in your planting zone as well!
